This morning, a white substance was found at Benjamin Turner Academy, prompting the school to enter a hold-in-place safety procedure. Students and staff were isolated from the substance as soon as it was discovered, and no one was harmed. The Mount Vernon Police and Fire Departments were immediately called to the school to investigate the incident. The fire department determined the substance was not harmful and removed it from the school premises. Benjamin Turner Academy and District staff acted swiftly to ensure students and staff were safe prior to resuming instruction. Normal school procedures resumed after the hold-in-place safety procedure was lifted.
Lieutenant Kenneth Bruce with the Mount Vernon Police Department stood in front of scholars at Benjamin Turner Academy and asked them “Are we going to do drugs?” with the crowd shouting “No!”, on Friday, October 25, 2024 during an anti drug presentation to close out Red Ribbon Week.
Students at Benjamin Turner Academy flooded the halls with pink to celebrate the third day of Spirit Week and spread awareness for Breast Cancer on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Throughout October, teachers have been raising awareness in the classroom by wearing pink shirts and jeans on Wednesday and donating money to a District-wide fundraiser, but this week students got involved in all the fun and showed their support by wearing pink shirts.
The sound of lively music and the smell of popcorn filled the cafeteria of Benjamin Turner Academy on Friday, September 27, 2024, as the school celebrated the kick off of their Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and i-Ready programs.
Students dribbled down the court, guarded by their teachers, as Benjamin Turner Academy held its inaugural staff vs. student basketball game on Friday, May 24, 2024.The stands were filled with students rooting for their seventh and eighth grade classmates, and the atmosphere was filled with excitement from all participants and spectators.
