Students at BTA take pictures with the Easter Bunny
In celebration of Easter, students took photos with the Easter Bunny in the Benjamin Turner Academy lobby on April 9. The lobby was decorated with a bench and a backdrop, and students were excited to enter the space and pose for pictures with the Easter Bunny. In some photos, students are holding the book “How to Catch the Easter Bunny,” a book by children’s author Adam Wallace.

The lobby was decorated with a bench and a backdrop, and students were excited to enter the space and pose for pictures with the Easter Bunny. On Tuesday, parent liaisons, alongside Benjamin Turner Academy (BTA), hosted Family Math and ELA Night. BTA families were actively engaged with math and English language arts trivia games. The Library Media Specialist at BTA also spoke about the importance of reading. Students and their families enjoyed a night of educational family fun with giveaways and laughs.
On Monday, March 3, 2025, BTA invited guest authors for “Read Across America,” an event to promote literacy in children. Students at the Benjamin Turner Academy excitedly lined up in the middle of the gymnasium to speak affirmations such as “I am smart” and “I am talented” into a microphone held by a young author.
In honor of his birthday on February 6, Benjamin Turner Academy students celebrated Bob Marley on February 7, 2025. Students participated in a presentation given by Principal Doris Dapaah and Assistant Principal Raisa Turner, a fashion show, and in closing sang “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley, led by Mr. Lammie, library media specialist at BTA.
Arc Stages came back to the Mount Vernon City School District on Thursday, January 23, 2025, to continue teaching young scholars how to write plays. This afternoon, they visited fifth and sixth graders at Benjamin Turner Academy.
Fifteen Benjamin Turner Academy students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society on Thursday, January 9, 2025. Families heartily gathered at the media center to watch their loved ones’ achievement. Acting Superintendent Dr. K. Veronica Smith and principal Doris Dapaah conferred awards to students during the event.
