Students create songs in class at Benjamin Turner Academy

Music played in the Benjamin Turner Academy music room as students listened to their handmade instrumental songs. Eighth grade students in Jordan Piper’s music class completed their song making project during the week of Monday, November 13, 2023.

Students used pre-recorded music Soundtrap, a digital audio workstation, to create their own songs.  The goal was to use four different categories of instruments – drums, bass, chords, and melody – to create a full sounding song texture.

Students also experimented with song form by reusing material in their songs and creating a ternary, or a three-part ABA, song form.  Students also experimented with advanced audio effects such as filter sweeps, panning and volume automation, which can be heard throughout the projects.

Students will continue to use Soundtrap for future projects.
